“I know a girl called Jonny
She's an impossibility
‘I'm an alchemist in my astronaut's dress’
Changing all the girls into boys”

Rowland S. Howard

Daisies (film still) 1966

Jonny is not from this world. She’s a vision of a late-60s utopian fantasy - drawing power from her feminine body while being fiercely independent, confident and direct. Remember Brigitte Bardot in “And God Created Woman (Et Dieu... créa la femme)”? She can do that. Remember Marlon Brando in “The Wild One.”? Jonny can do that as well.

You will most likely first recognise her by her husky voice ringing with a deadpan tone. She is not interested in gender binaries, norms or hierarchies created by human societies. Jonny’s an enigmatic lone wolf who doesn’t break the rules because she doesn’t believe in them in the first place.

She’s your romanticised dreamgirl from the imagined future that has already passed.

Jonny is part of insitu collective’s Cycle III in which we present four group exhibitions, developed as if they were fictional characters. Each character is based on either a particular psychological profile, personality trait or an existing character found in literature, film or music.

For Jonny, we exhibit works from 1924 to today. All pieces are video works, intended to provide a ‘portal’ into different facets of her character.
