Magnetic Realm is a video essay that explores the representation of Thailand’s forests in art, film and literature. Using collected excerpts from Thai cinema, it traces different conceptions of the forest through the mythical tales, historical events and morality lessons told within it.
This video essay is part of an ongoing research project into the mythology of landscape. This project investigates the underlying beliefs and attitudes toward cultural identity, value systems and historical events that are embedded in the way that natural environments are imagined and represented in art, folklore, film and popular culture.
